The print was commissioned from the artist by the Gruppo Melfin/Elcat (Gruppo di Progettazione e Costruzione Componenti di Carrozzerie Autoveicoli), Rivoli (Turin) – the President, Luigi Brandoli, is a longtime friend of the artist – as part of a series of graphic works whose aim was to familiarize the industrial world with contemporary Italian artists.

A star chart featuring the major constellations is the background to a dizzying multitude of white triangles coming from the central nucleus, consisting of the incongruous combination between two triangles and a circle.
The title in Latin, Pictor, refers to the name of a constellation in the celestial southern hemisphere (visible to the right in the star chart), which in a metaphorical key recalls the Painter, who is always searching for the balancing point in which everything converges in a completed dimension, represented by the constellations as the emblem of a wonderful and unsurpassable design.
The specular arrangement of the two triangles in the middle is inspired by the logo of the patron (cf. the previous print made for the same company, Eclat, 1986, GPE-0056).
