Fenêtre ouverte, 1971

GPO-0207

Photo emulsion on canvas

150 x 115 cm

Private collection

The photographic canvas reproduces a view, through an open window, of Henri Matisse's private garden in Cimiez. The title is the same as that of a series of paintings by Matisse himself, Fenêtre ouverte, which portray a view of the landscape through the frame of a window.
In the artist's own words: “The view which is intimately familiar to Matisse is
his own; hence, all I could do was sign it with the title of his own work”.1
