Apollo e la Sibilla Cumana, 1976

GPO-0331

Apollo and the Cumean Sibyl

Photo emulsion on canvas

70 x 140 cm (two parts 70 x 70 cm each)

Signed, titled, and dated on the verso of one of the two canvases, upper stretcher bar: “Giulio Paolini / Apollo e la Sibilla Cumana / 1976”

Lorenzo and Marilena Bonomo Collection

The two photographic canvases arranged close together reproduce the painting by Claude Lorrain entitled Apollon et la Sibylle de Cumes (1665) and the enlargement of the figure of Apollo, respectively, so that the latter indicates the subject of the representation itself, as if to raise the curtain on the mythological scene he pertains to.
