Ni le soleil, ni la mort... (All the Works Exhibited)
Pencil and collage on paper
Nine framed parts 65 x 50 cm each, overall dimensions 200 x 155 cm
Signed, titled and dated on the recto of the fifth element, lower centre: “Giulio Paolini / (tutte le opere esposte) / Graz, apr. 1998”
Collection of the artist
The work conceived for the solo exhibition in Graz in 1998 consists of nine framed elements arranged close together. In the middle is a portrait drawn by the artist with a drawing pin in the area corresponding to the eye, while the eight peripheral frames feature several rectangles outlined at random and some typescript pages. The “catalogue” of rectangles acts as a virtual index of the works exhibited, while the pages of text refer to the author’s reflections on the Graz exhibition itself.1
