White and Black
Xerox reproductions, black pencil
Dismantled work
The black pencil in a vertical position holds down twenty-four images, overlapping one another irregularly. The images alternate between the colours black and white like the squares on a chessboard. The white ones are enlargements of the drawings of squares in various permutations, while the black ones are reproductions of sheets that have been completely filled in in black pencil. At the top of the “heap” an image of the “chessboard” from Photofinish (1993-94, GPO-0735) serves as the enigmatic “summary” of the undecipherable drawings held down by the black pencil.
