Steel tripods, glass fragments, engraving on mirror
Ø 320 cm
Dismantled work
The work was made for the group exhibition Orizzonti. Il Belvedere dell’arte held at Forte Belvedere in Florence. It consists of a round mirror laid on the ground in which is carved the drawing of the ancient meridian present on the posterior facade of the Forte, above the arcade (at the exhibition, the work was located in the green area opposite the latter). At the centre of the mirror, four upside-down metal easels turned in different directions generate an intricate constellation of “gnomons”, in conversation with the drawing carved into the mirror. Multiple glass fragments are scattered on the tripods and all around the reflecting surface.
The tripods turned towards different “horizons” (hence the title of the work, which in turn reproduces that of the exhibition for which it was made) suggest the search for an ideal position of balance on the circular quadrant of the meridian. An arduous itinerary, as indicated by the upside-down position and the glass fragments, which can be related – in the artist’s intentions – to four whole glass sheets that have been broken.
