On the support surface of a plinth a fragment of volcanic rock is set down on several overlapping surfaces that are askew: a sheet of dark plexiglas, a blackened sheet with an illegible drawing, a photographic reproduction of the night-time sky applied to a blank sheet.
In their impenetrability, these surfaces seem to constitute an echo of the mysterious mineral presence closed within itself: as if they were (vain) attempts to represent that inaccessible, inimitable element.
The location in Iceland that gives the work its title recalls the provenance of the stone fragment itself.
