”I See” (15 July 1969)
Collage on primed canvas
120 x 180 cm
Private collection, Pescara
This collage on canvas haphazardly combines the torn sheets of drawing paper on which, on 15 July 1969, Paolini "deciphered" his visual field (cf. GPO-0188) and on which, a few months later, while they were on display at the “Biennale de Paris”, an anonymous visitor vandalized them by drawing on them. “The sheets that originally provided an abstract transcription of the phenomenon of vision now record an event that actually took place within the dimension of a 'painting'”,1 Paolini remarks.
