Humboldtschloss, 1982

GPO-0482

Pencil on primed canvas, plaster cast

175 x 80 cm

Private collection, Turin

The lower canvas serves as a virtual base for the hypothetical bust of the Hermes of Praxiteles, simulated in the upper canvas by the profile drawn in pencil and the plaster cast hanging on the wall in the area corresponding to the head.
The title recalls a place rich in evocations, visited by the artist in 1981: the home of Wilhelm von Humboldt in Berlin-Tegel (also known as “Humboldt Schlösschen” or “Schloss Tegel”).

Praxiteles, Hermes and the Infant Dionysos, 350-330 BC, marble, h 215 cm, Archaeological Museum, Olympia.
