Alighiero Boetti, 1986

Sixteen squares, drawn on the wall in four rows and at regular intervals, each include a letter from the name Alighiero Boetti. The way the letters are laid out inside the modules follows an orderly rhythm, starting from the first letter in the upper left corner of the first square, to the last letter in the lower right corner of the last square. The wall drawing is integrated with about twenty sheets of drawing paper – of the same size as the squares drawn on the wall – distributed in random order, so that at some moments the "order" of the regular pattern intersects with the "disorder" of the sheets (in the areas where they overlap, the drawing and the writing end up on the paper).
The "portrait" of the artist's friend Boetti was conceived for the group exhibition "Ritrattare"(Portraiting), where each of the artists who participated was asked to make a portrait of another artist involved in the project.
