That’s It
Slides, slide projectors, collage and pencil on wall
Dismantled work
In a dark room, at the back of a room outlined in perspective on the wall, a fixed projection of three slides shows three male figures: to either side and in the middle ground are the symmetrical silhouettes of two valets, while at the centre, in the foreground, is a figure in ceremonial dress and wearing a top hat. The latter figure is half-hidden behind a white canvas, which he seems to hold in front of himself (the real canvas is hanging on the wall), as if he were blinded by the beam of light from the projector, or were literally looking at the painting he is holding up against the light. Scattered on the wall are the illustrated pages of the Ravenna exhibition catalogue for which the work was made; two of them are arranged so that they correspond to the valets, and so as to seem as though they were being offered by the two projected figures.
The same theme was reformulated in 1987 in a new work with the same title (GPO-0596).
