Sixteen photographic details of the interior of the Wittgenstein House in Vienna, arranged at equidistant intervals, are rotated in arbitrary positions so as to make the reading of the architectural space undecipherable. In each photograph, the fragment of an extraneous image – alternatively cut out from a square of black or white paper, or from the colour reproduction of a celestial map included in a square module – further increases the degree of abstraction of the pieces in a bizarre mosaic. The general survey of the uninhabited spaces of the villa thus appears to become a labyrinthine path, which deceives the gaze with illusory spatial views and fragmented angles, causing the loss of orientation promised by the title.
