Interno (giorno), 2004
GPO-0889
Interior (Day)
Primed canvases, gilt frame, plexiglas sheet, nylon thread
Canvas, frame and sheet 40 x 60 cm each, overall dimensions 160 x 240 x 60 cm
Dismantled work
Four primed canvases are joined to form a niche, which houses three distinct elements: a gilt frame arranged at the back, a plexiglas sheet inserted in the frame so that it is askew, and a primed canvas hanging freely from a nylon thread at the centre of the niche.
Hanging in a sort of scenic space – an “interior” that is lit as if it were daytime, as indicated by the title1 – the three disorderly elements seem caught in the moment that precedes their being fixed in the ideal measure of a finished painting.
1 In the solo exhibition in Torre Pellice in 2004, for which the work was made, the title was a pendant to Interno (notte), 2004 (GPO-0890), a work comprising elements tending to arrange themselves in the darkness.
