Dismantled work
A bottomless plexiglas case hung on the wall overlaps a primed canvas arranged horizontally that acts as a support plane for a crumpled drawing in red pencil. The drawing is the epicentre of the sunburst of dotted lines, outlined in red pencil on the wall starting from the crumpled sheet.
The elements at play allude to a work that is taken apart and that remains unknown: the bottomless case, as if it were an upside-down base, is suspended in mid-air; the canvas positioned horizontally becomes a support plane; the drawing on the wall amplifies the echo of an undecipherable image that becomes a material object. The exchange of functions and positions is revealed by the title, which by alluding to the “pesi e misure” (weights and measures) of a painting, emphasizes the “abnormal” condition of the components.
The same theme was developed, albeit in different terms, in two other homonymous versions, made in 2001 (GPO-0860, GPO-0863).
