Placed on top of a photographic reproduction of a patch of sky – held down by a plexiglas sheet – the plaster cast of a man’s hand is connected with an hourglass, lying in a horizontal position.
The gesture of the hand suggests the illusory attempt to stop – “hic et nunc”, here and now, as the Latin expression in the title tells us – the passing of time (represented by the hourglass) in a circumscribed area of space (evoked by the sky).
In the artist’s own words: “Here? Where? In the infinite space of the sky? And now: when? In the unstoppable flow of time?”1
