A plaster cast of an open hand, in an upright position, is associated with four torn blue images arranged in the thumb of the hand, on the base of the cast, and under the plexiglas sheet, respectively (the three torn fragments are taken from an advertising page and illustrate the freehand application of paint, while the image underneath the sheet reproduces a patch of sky).
The fragments of the image in “free fall”, as the title suggests, refer to the author’s gesture, represented by the hand that tries in vain to hold an absolute dimension, symbolized by the sky. A gesture that the artist does not want to forgo, notwithstanding his awareness of its impracticality.
