Consummations
Framed colour photo print, halogen lamp, collage on glass
Photo frame 42.5 x 33 cm
Marian Goodman Gallery, New York
The work can be installed on a black, white, or plexiglas plinth, or on a small table. The lamp cable must fall down along the plinth or the table.
A portrait frame with a black passepartout, set in front of an unlit halogen lamp, frames the colour reproduction of a waiter, pictured against the interior of a Grand Hotel which is brightened by the glittering crystal chandeliers. On the glass of the portrait frame, in the area corresponding to the tray held by the waiter, are the torn pieces of a star chart. Other details from the same source are arranged around the glass of the lamp so that it looks as though the image were "consumed" in that point.
The work is part of a series of four variants, made between 1988 and 1995, which are distinguished by the collage on the portrait frames and the intervention associated with the lamp (GPO-0633, GPO-0644, GPO-0650, GPO-0760).
