Pagine (II), 2000
GPO-0848
Pages (II)
Bound book with blank pages, black pencil, torn fragments of lithographic print
Closed book 32 x 24.5 cm
Collection of the artist
The book is inclined, with the help of a small support made of white wood, styrofoam or other material (8 x 16 x 8 cm).
The fragments are distributed between the pages of both sides of the open book.
• 2000, Zurich, Galerie Verna: the artist arranged the four versions of Pagine with the books opened to different parts: the first book was opened to the middle, the second one was opened to the first pages, the third one was opened to the three-quarter mark, and the fourth one was opened to the middle again.
• 2011, Bologna, Biblioteca Universitaria: the four versions of Pagine were all arranged with the books opened to the middle.
A bound book of blank pages, open to the middle, features to the left a drawing of the artist's face against a pile of blank sheets. A black pencil pierces the area corresponding to the left eye. The pencil, which is directed downwards, virtually acts as a pivot for the pile of sheets. Other details from the same image are scattered throughout the pages of the book.
The work is part of a group of four variants, made in the same year, each of which distinguished by a different intervention on the book (GPO-0847, GPO-0848, GPO-0849, GPO-0850).
