Tuning Fork
Pencil on primed canvas and on reversed canvas, brass decoration
107.5 x 100 cm
Signed, titled, and dated on the verso, upper stretcher bar, left: “Giulio Paolini / Diapason 1979-80”
Cesare and Franca Annibaldi Collection, Turin
On a square canvas featuring a grid of square modules drawn in pencil, three smaller canvases – two viewed from the recto, the one in the middle from the verso – in turn feature a register of “paintings”, thus creating a game of agreements and dissonances. The ensemble of "voices" is in harmony with (or orchestrated by) the winged figure at the top of the canvas striking the “tuning fork”.
The same theme was developed in two other variants made during the same year (GPO-0428, GPO-0429).
