Pagine (IV), 2000
GPO-0850
Pages (IV)
Bound book with blank pages, black pencil, crumpled xerox reproductions
Closed book 32 x 24.5 cm
Collection of the artist
The book is inclined, with the help of a small support made of white wood, styrofoam or other material (8 x 16 x 8 cm).
• 2000, Zurich, Galerie Verna: the four versions of Pagine are arranged so that the books are opened to different parts: the first book was opened to the middle, the second one was opened to the first pages, the third one was opened to the three-quarter mark, and the fourth one was opened to the middle again. Blackened and crumpled sheets of paper were arranged underneath the book.
• 2011, Bologna, Biblioteca Universitaria: the four versions of Pagine were all arranged with the books opened to the middle. Torn fragments of autograph manuscripts were heaped underneath the book.
A bound book of blank pages, opened to the middle, features a black pencil directed downwards inserted in the right side, as if, virtually, it pierced the torn fragments of autograph writings piled up underneath the book.
The work is part of a group of four variants, made in the same year, each of which distinguished by a different intervention on the book (GPO-0847, GPO-0848, GPO-0849, GPO-0850).
