A golden chalice holds an upside-down compass that is opened so that it is equal to the diameter of the glass. The chalice is set down at the centre of a partially gilded and partially silver-gilded frame, so that it coincides with the intersection of the diagonals in red pencil that square the sheet held down underneath the frame. The central portion of the drawing is cut out and arranged so that it is tangent to a larger circular cut out made in the sheet.
Bloody Mary is part of a group of four works made between 1989 and 1991, entitled with the name of an apéritif, in which a cocktail glass – different each time – serves as the pivot of a composition of staggered elements that, as a whole, seek the point of perfect equilibrium (GPO-0645, GPO-0649, GPO-0662, GPO-0687).
