Alexander, 1989

GPO-0649

Stem glass, compass, red pencil on blue tempera card stock, plexiglas sheet and case, piece of Murano glass

Card stock and plexiglas sheet 34 x 34 cm each, plexiglas case 38 x 38 x 38 cm

FER Collection

A goblet inside which a compass has been inserted upside down stands in the middle of a plexiglas sheet that overlies a piece of blue cardstock whose diagonals have been squared with a red pencil. An eccentric round cut-out is at a tangent to the base of the glass and to the plexiglas case that is staggered as it covers the assemblage. Placed atop the case, in the area corresponding to the goblet, is a remainder of blue Murano glass.
Alexander is part of a group of four works made between 1989 and 1991, and named after an apéritif. In each of the works the cocktail glass, which changes each time, acts as a pivot for a composition of elements that are in turned staggered, and that as a whole seek a point of perfect balance (GPO-0645, GPO-0649, GPO-0662, GPO-0687).
